Consider those matrix-valued functions that take their values on a given subset of positive definite matrices and the related elliptic partial differential operators. We find that though the infimum of eigenvalues for these operators is not always attainable, it can be attained by some operator formed by lamination of the original operators. We give a method to find such an operator.
